Also called .xyz
.xyz domain, explained
The extension was delegated in February 2014, with CentralNic as its technical operator, and by Q2 2026 it was one of the ten largest TLDs by registrations, according to Verisign's Domain Name Industry Brief. Its most prominent user is Alphabet, whose investor relations site is abc.xyz. The registry prices some names as premium, and low first-year promotions are common across new gTLDs, so compare the renewal price with the first-year price before registering.
Registration totals say little about resale demand, because promotional pricing can inflate them, and the resale market is small next to .com, which made up 66% of Sedo's sales in 2025. As in most extensions, very short names and numbers are the likeliest to find buyers. Before paying more than the registration fee, look for reported sales of comparable .xyz names rather than relying on registration counts.
Example. Before buying a .xyz name, compare its renewal price with the first-year price and look up reported sales of similar .xyz names.
