CVCV domain, explained
C stands for consonant and V for vowel, and investors use the same shorthand for other patterns. With 21 consonants and 5 vowels, counting Y as a consonant, there are 11,025 possible CVCV strings. In .com they are effectively never available to hand register, so they change hands through the aftermarket, expiry auctions and drop catching. That fixed supply, plus demand from startups that want a short brandable name, gives CVCV .coms a market among investors that most longer brandables lack.
Not every CVCV is equal. Letter pairs that are awkward to say, unfortunate meanings in major languages and ambiguous spelling all cut value, so check meanings, pronunciation and trademarks before buying. CVCVC names are 21 times as numerous and far less liquid, and both patterns trade in much thinner markets outside .com. AI name generators produce pronounceable five- and six-letter coinages without limit, which pushes value toward the scarce four-letter .com end of the pattern.
Example. Startups like CVCV .coms because a four-letter invented word is easy to say once and to spell correctly after hearing it.
