Geo domain, explained
City-plus-service names, such as a city name followed by plumber or dentist, are the most common type. Buyers include local businesses, lead-generation companies, tourism and media sites, and sometimes city or regional bodies. Value tracks the size and wealth of the place and the commercial value of the service: a large metro area paired with a high-value service is a different asset from a small town paired with a low-value one.
Geographic terms are relatively low-risk legally. WIPO panels hold that a place name used only in its ordinary geographic sense gives no standing in a UDRP case unless it is registered as a trademark, though some marks do use place names distinctively, so still check. The common mistake is registering long city-plus-keyword combinations for small towns, where there may be no buyer able or willing to pay. City extensions such as .nyc and .london compete for some of the same local buyers.
Example. A domain pairing a large city's name with a high-value local service can sell to a lead-generation company or to a leading firm in that city.
