Make offer, explained

Marketplaces let you choose between a fixed buy-now price, make offer, or both. Sedo, for example, offers make offer alongside buy now and says its Buy Now domains sell faster. Some marketplaces also let you set a minimum offer, so offers below it are filtered out.

Make offer suits names whose value is hard to pin down or very high, where a fixed price could leave money on the table or put off a buyer with a bigger budget. The cost is friction: a visible price lets a buyer act at once, while make offer asks them to open a negotiation, and some will not. The common mistake is ignoring or mocking low offers. A first offer is information; answer with a counteroffer and a reason, such as comparable sales.

Example. The name was listed as make offer with a minimum offer in the low four figures, which filtered out casual low bids without hiding that the name was for sale.
